Samuel David Emerson

OPELOUSAS

A memorial gathering and visitation will be held for Samuel “Sammich” David Emerson, age 44, on Friday, January 6, 2023 from 4 PM to 9 PM and will continue on Saturday, January 7, 2023 from 8 AM to 3 PM at the Sibille Funeral Home, 2309 George Dr, Opelousas, Louisiana.

Tragically, and to promote awareness, his family shares that Sam took his own life the early morning hours of Saturday, December 24, 2022, in Opelousas, Louisiana.

Sam was the youngest of two children born to David and Lori (Magee) Emerson of Coquille, Oregon. He was born at 8:16 pm on Monday, June 5, 1978, at Bay Area Hospital in Coos Bay, Oregon.

Sam spent his childhood between Oregon and Alaska, attending schools and making lifelong friends in both states.

He loved being with and helping family and friends, hosting social gatherings at his residence, and sharing his love of the University of Oregon Ducks. GEAUX DUCKS!

He had a huge generous heart, was a natural born salesman, and an amazing leader.

Sammich touched countless lives from Alaska to Louisiana and he will be missed tremendously.

Samuel is survived by his wife, Rachelle Emerson, and their children, Briaunna “Breezy” and Emmitt “Bubba” Buckley, and his son, Syris Emerson, all in Opelousas.

In addition, he is survived by his father and his wife, David and Sandy Emerson of Coquille, Oregon, and his mother and her husband, Lori and Rick Wade of Dallas, Oregon.

He is also survived by his siblings, Jessica Phiachantharath, Portland, Oregon, Jeff (Susan) Emerson, Exeter, California, Janette Sweet, Springfield, Oregon, Julie Desrosiers, Molalla, Oregon, Jason Grumbling, Corvallis, Oregon, Kim (Tony) Budesilich, Sherwood, Oregon, and Craig (Nicole) Wade, Kutztown, Pennsylvania; his paternal grandmother, Lois Emerson, Coos Bay, Oregon; his maternal grandfather, Louis Magee, McMinnville, Oregon;  paternal aunts and uncles; Sue (Larry) Tietsort, North Bend, Oregon, Debbie (Bruce) Carpani, Coos Bay, Oregon; maternal aunts and uncles; Lesa (Chris) Haight, Orion, Illinois, Colleen (Dan) Cumberland, Albany, Oregon, Kathi (Michael) Chard, Coos Bay, Oregon, Lori (Tim) Causey, Redmond, Oregon, and April (Gary) Steele, Roseburg, Oregon; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
