Patsy “Deanie” Zerangue, age 78, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 28, 2021, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Patsy was born on September 5,1942 in Port Arthur, Texas to Joyce Lahaye Duplechain and Herman Duplechain. She had one younger brother, Ronald Duplechain.

At the age of 15, Patsy met her life-long companion and husband, Leon Zerangue. They went on to have two beautiful children, David Wayne Zerangue and Linda Zerangue. The family later settled down in Opelousas, Louisiana when she was in her 20s.

In her younger years she worked at Abdalla’s in Opelousas. She went on to cook in the cafeteria at Grolee Elementary School for nearly 20 years where she made several life-long friends.

She enjoyed cooking just as much as her family enjoyed eating her cooking. Family get togethers were something that she always looked forward to. Her son-in-law would always joke with her and ask, “Mother-in- Law, are you talking to your pots?”. It is a joke that her family will always laugh about.

Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant the world to her. She always made sure Chase had his late-night French fries and Marita accompanied her to her favorite Chinese restaurant. Isabelle was her first great-granddaughter; she was the apple of maw maw’s eye. Years later she met her first great-grandson, Ethan, and her second great-granddaughter, Olivia. Toward the end of her journey here on Earth, she was able to meet “the twins”, Harper and Luke. Her wish before she passed was to hold both babies at the same time. It was something her family made sure they fulfilled.

She spent her life caring for and worrying about others. It was only right that in her final days she was able to rest and allow her family to worry and care for her. She will be forever loved and greatly missed by those who knew her. Heaven definitely gained an angel.

Patsy is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Leon Zerangue of Opelousas; son, David Zerangue and wife, Debbie; daughter, Linda Zerangue-Toten; brother, Ronald Duplechain and wife, Diane; grandchildren, Shawn Comeaux, Marita Comeaux, David Chase Zerangue, Chad Stelly, Allyson Stelly and Joel Stelly; great-grandchildren, Isabelle “Izzy” Comeaux, Ethan Comeaux, Luke Boone, Harper Boone, Ethan Boone, Aliana Boone, Laila Boone, Tom Stelly, Katherine Stelly, Ivy Claire Stelly, Olivia and Isaiah “DeeDee”; and her fur baby/cat, “Peanut”.

Patsy is preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Joyce Lahaye Duplechain; and son-in-law, Mark Toten.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 3, 2021, from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas. The rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Visitation will reopen on Sunday at 8:00 a.m. until time of service.
