Louis Doucet, Sr.

OPELOUSAS- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Louis Austin Doucet, Sr. on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at the St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas. Visitation will be held in the church on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until time of service, the rosary will be recited at 2:30 p.m. Monsignor Russell Harrington will celebrate the Mass. Inurnment will follow in St. Landry Cemetery (MSGR. Louis J. Melancon Memorial Mausoleum). A celebration of life will follow the graveside services at Toby’s Lounge and Reception Center in Opelousas.

Louis Austin Doucet, Sr., age 83, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 4, 2021 at his residence in Opelousas.

Mr. Doucet, a native of Opelousas was a parishioner of St. Landry Catholic Church. He attended St. Stanislaus Catholic School in Bay St. Louis, MS and was an alumnus of AIC, where he played football. He spoke often of his football playing days and cherished the special friendships made and kept through the years, with fellow teammates. He attended the University of Southern Mississippi and Texas A&M. He worked as a deputy sheriff under his father, Sheriff D.J. “Cat” Doucet, Sr. and as a detective under Sheriff Adler Ledoux. He became a businessman specializing in polygraph examination, as well as, private investigation, for which he received many accolades. He was a member of the Elks, The NRA Golden Eagles, The Sheriff’s 300 club and a founding member of the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Posse. His hobbies included snow skiing, scuba diving, auto and boat racing, antique/classic cars, and attending Biloxi’s annual “Cruising the Coast” with his sons.

Survivors include his children, Louis Austin “Bubba” Doucet, Jr. (Darlene), William Daly “Bill” Doucet (Jennifer), and Annie Marie Doucet Clark (Brett): five grandchildren, Louis “Austin” Doucet, III (Alissa), Lacey Doucet Dupuis (Jake), Micah Clark, Lindsey Clark Glynn(Andy), and Amber Clark Guillory (Logan), as well as, nine great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Daly Joseph “Cat” Doucet, Sr. and Annie Darcey Doucet, brothers, Harold John Doucet, Sr. and Daly Joseph Doucet, Jr., sisters, Albertes Zernott, Yvonne Fontenot, and Anna Dale Doucet, and a grandson, Jacob Anthony Clark.

Pallbearers will be Bubba Doucet, Bill Doucet, Austin Doucet, Micah Clark, Daly Doucet, III, Eric Reese, Johnny Doucet, and Sheriff Bobby Guidroz.

Music selection will be performed by Goddaughter, Rhonda Guidry, on a guitar which was gifted to her by Mr. Doucet on her 16th birthday.

The family would like to extend a very special thanks to St. Landry Home Health, St. Landry Hospice Care, his caring sitters, and special caretaker, Gerard Charles.
