James Briley

Opelousas

Opelousas- A Memorial Service will be held for James Briley at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2021, in the Queen of Angels in Opelousas, visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until time of service. Msgr. Keith DeRouren will conduct the service. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulcher Mausoleum in Opelousas.

James, age 88, born in Grand Prairie, Louisiana, and a lifelong resident of Opelousas, passed away on Thursday, January 6, 2021. He was a dedicated father and husband. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

James was the 1st of 8 children in his family to finish college. He started his career as an Elementary Teacher & Industrial Arts teacher. He was the 1st Special Ed. Director in ST. Landry Parish; he went on to become Asst. Superintendent in St. Landry Parish.

His passion was raising & showing championship Doberman’s. His carrier started in the 1960’s showing dogs. He bread and raised over 100 champions.  His kennel was Aquarius Kennels. He finished 100 champions. He also became a judge and traveled all around the world.

He is survived by his sons, Cliff Briley (Debbie), and Chuck Briley; daughter, Denise Briley Meriwether (William “Bill”); grandchildren, Tara Roberts Fontenot (Haven), Dustin Roberts, Jared Briley, Lindsey Briley Roy (Tyler), Megan Briley, Kasie Briley Chelette, (Chris), Alycee Briley Wheaton (Devin); great grandchildren, Gavin and Eliot Fontenot, Bella and Piper Ardoin, William, Thomas, Jude and Hayes Roy, Olivia and Thomas Estelette, Lly and Marley Roberts and Thomas Wheaton; Sisters, Rita Soileau (Warren), Eloise Lafleur (Marshall) and Winnie Gamber (James); Brothers, Clyde Briley (Mary), Archie Briley (Barbara), siter, Rita Soileau (Warren), brother, Clyde Briley (Mary)

He is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Theresa Briley, and his parents, Marceline Trouille and Clifford Briley.
