LAFAYETTE– A Funeral Service will be held for Freida Bevers on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. in the Landmark Church in Lafayette; visitation will be held in church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Pastor Rick Langford will conduct the service. Interment will follow at Lafayette Memorial Park.
Freida, age 89, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at her residence in Lafayette surrounded by her loving family.
Freida was born on August 30, 1932 in Church Point, LA and was a lifelong resident of Lafayette. From early childhood Freida was always devoted to God, after enduring much tragedy in her life God was always her strength during those trying times. Freida shared her love and knowledge of the Lord through her Sunday school teaching. Her love of God led her to travel to conferences and camp meetings; be it kids camp, ministers’ conferences, or women’s conferences; she was there. Freida’s passion was to see as many people as possible come to know Jesus. She was a dedicated member of Landmark Church in Lafayette. Freida cherished spending time and making a treasury of memories to relive with her larger-than-life family to known that life has been worthwhile. Freida loved cooking and baking in both small and large quantities for family, friends, and her congregation. She enjoyed traveling and seeing the world with her family; most memorable her trip to Israel to see where Jesus lived and died for all. Freida will be greatly missed by her family, friends and all who knew and loved her.
Freida is survived by her six daughters, Mary Jane Scott (Mark), Cheryl Miller, Karen Domengeaux, and Christine Watts (Tom), all of Lafayette, Terry Grimsley (John) of Scott, and Sarah Romero (Mitch) of Maurice; step-son, Henry R. “Ronnie” Bevers, Jr. (Lisa) of Wetumpka, AL; two step-daughters, Sheryl B. Hulsey (Dennis) of Orange Beach, AL and Linda Hall of West Monroe, LA; brother, Kelly Sonnier; sisters, Jeanette Cormier, Melba Thibodeaux (Howard), Sylvia Johnson (Harry) and Ramona Miller; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren. Freida takes with her, her prayer dog, Rusty, given to her by Pastor Rick to keep watch over her for the last five years.
Freida was preceded in death by her husbands, Elroy Miller, Sr., Willie Lopez and Henry Bevers, Sr.; parents, Henry Sonnier, Jr. and Sarah Thibodeaux Sonnier; two daughters, Cynthia Rose Marie Miller and Peggy Doucet; two sons, Goldman “Joe” Miller and Elroy Miller, Jr.; brothers, Leroy Sonnier and Preston Sonnier; sister, Mildred Carrier; grandson, John Doucet II; and step-daughter, Sandy Jackson.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 15, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas. Visitation will resume on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at Landmark Church in Lafayette from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
Pallbearers will be Joshua Taylor, Troy Doucet, Stacy Miller, Connor Talbot, Scott Taylor, Craig d’Augereau, Blake Broussard and Thomas R. Watts.
