Frankie Glasscock

November 2, 1934 — April 16, 2022

Mrs. Frankie Shaver Glasscock was born on November 2, 1934, in Opelousas, Louisiana, and was a longtime resident there.  She left this world peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022, after a long, full life.

Frankie obtained her bachelor’s degree at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas and her master’s degree at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.  Early in her lifelong career as an educator she taught young minds in elementary school.  Later she taught high school students in Art and Home Economics at Career Practical Arts Center in Frilot Cove, Sunset High School, and Washington High.  Frankie was among the first teachers of Computer Literacy and Computer Science at Beau Chene High School.  At Beau Chene High School she was proud of the impact she made working with students decorating the lunchroom, setting up for School Proms and Football Games, and organizing the School Yearbook.  Frankie was a creative mind, volunteering as an Art Teacher at Opelousas City Park for the Summer Arts Program, and outside of the education setting as an active member of The Art Club.  She spent much of her life creating and producing numerous paintings and other works of Art.  Some of the art projects favored by her family were lovingly crafted light-up Christmas sweaters, unmatched by anything bought at a store today.  She was a genuine host, throwing joy-filled Christmas and Easter Holiday parties, leaving her children and grandchildren with fond memories.  Retiring at 63 years old, Frankie and her husband Carol found a love for dogs, raising Cocker Spaniels and Cocker Poos full of love until she was 84 years old.  The dogs and puppies in her care always put happy smiling faces on those around her, young and old alike.  The dog loving community had a great respect for the care she gave her dogs, and the love she had for them.  She even designed and maintained a website for them cleverly named “Glasscock’s Cockers.”  Frankie was a caring Wife, Mother and Grandmother.  She will be missed by all that knew and loved her.  Rest in Peace Mom.  Thank you, we love you Mawmaw.

Survivors include her Children Robert W. Bates and wife Jeanne of Carlton, Oregon, Steven K. Bates and wife Lynn of New Iberia, Martha Annette Bates Bantin of Lafayette, her brother Jim Shaver and wife Bonnie of Opelousas, Eight Grandchildren, and Eleven Great Grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her Parents, James Shaver and Rosalie Guillory Shaver, her Son Stuart Bates and wife Angela, her First husband James Bates of 18 years and her Second Husband Carol Glasscock of 40 years.

A Private Memorial to be held at a later date.
