Carey Edwin Walton passed from this life on September 22, 2022. He was born on October 27, 1922 in Bayou Current, La to George Richard Walton and Florence Keller Walton, the sixth of seven children. He met his future wife, Ruth Caraway, in school in Melville, La. After high school, Carey joined the US Army Air Corps during World War II. Carey and Ruth married on December 18, 1944 in the Episcopal Church in Plaquemine, La. Following Carey’s honorable discharge from the US Army, the couple moved to Pittsburg, PA where Carey earned credentials as a Master Watchmaker at Western Pennsylvania Horological Institute. When his schooling was completed, they settled in Opelousas, La, and opened their first jewelry store in 1948. Eventually, their business expanded to include eight successful jewelry stores and a wholesale jewelry company. Carey was the first certified gemologist in the state of Louisiana. Carey and Ruth retired in 1977 and enjoyed another ten years in Louisiana before relocating to Dallas, TX. Carey and Ruth enjoyed the remainder of their lives fulfilling life-long dreams of traveling, dancing, and serving their church. Carey and Ruth had two beloved children, Gary Vaughn and Sandra Elise. Carey is preceded in death by his wife of 72 years Ruth Walton and his son Gary Vaughn. He is survived by daughter-in-law Sharon, daughter Elise Walton Chitty and husband Mike, grandchildren Leslie Walton Poto (John), Lauren Chitty Crawford (Ben), Whitney Walton Lowe (Josh), Katie Chitty Ratcliff (Evan), Michael Chitty (Mandy), twelve great-grandchildren, and extended family.
