Bertha Stoute

PORT BARRE: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Bertha A. Stoute, at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 6, 2020, in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Port Barre. Fr. Clint Trahan will celebrate the Mass. Burial will follow at the Sacred Heart Mausoleum.

Mrs. Stoute, age 89, a resident of Port Barre, passed away on Friday, January 3, 2020 at Senior Village Nursing Home in Opelousas.

Mrs. Stoute was known as a devoutly religious woman. She was a dedicated member of the Lay Carmelites Order. She enjoyed making rosaries and donating them to missions all over. She was an avid storyteller who enjoyed reading and being outdoors picking pecans. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her daughter, Velma Leger and husband, Michael of Port Barre; sons, Jessie Stoute, Jr. and wife, Marie of Baker and Mike Anthony Stoute and wife, Nora of Port Barre; sister, Ruby Wade and husband, Joe of Baton Rouge; 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jessie Stoute; second husband, Ray Stout; son, Joseph Dennis Stoute; parents; Louis Artigue, Sr. and Agnes Castille Artigue; brothers, Cleveland Artigue, Norman Artigue, and Louis Artigue, Jr.; and sisters, Pearl Robin and Mearl Moreau.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 5, 2020 from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home in Port Barre. The rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday evening. Visitation will continue from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. on Monday.
