Port Barre-Wilson Lee Stelly, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on January 7, 2024. He was born in Opelousas on July 17, 1949, to his loving parents Wilson and Norma Lee Stelly.
In Addition to his career as a pasta salesman and painter, Wilson dedicated himself to various hobbies and interests. He had love for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing at The Luxurious Old Courtableau Yacht Club. He also demonstrated his skill in carpentry, crafting intricate pieces that showcased his artistic eye and technical expertise. However, one of his greatest joys in life was spending time with his family and friends at their beloved camp.
Wilson’s legacy extends beyond his professional accomplishments and hobbies. He was the proud founder of the Old Courtableau Yacht Club, an organization that provided countless opportunities for people to connect through their shared love of hunting and fishing. Under leadership, this club became a close-knit community that fostered lifelong friendships and created cherished memories.
Those who knew Wilson will remember him as a loving person who always had a kind word or gesture for others. His gentle demeanor and warm heart endeared him to everyone he met. Whether it was offering a helping hand or lending an empathetic ear, Wilson made those around him feel valued and supported.
Wilson leaves behind an enduring legacy through his surviving family and friends. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Judith A. Stelly. Their bond brought additional depth and meaning to his life, a testament of true love. His
daughter Christina Jeanne’ Guidroz, (Richard) “Daddy’s Little Girl” sons Aaron Jude Stelly (Nicole Decker), Tipton C. Kindel III (Melissa Harris), Samuel E. Kindel (Casey Lamke), his sister Debbie Stelly Salinas (David) and a host of cherished grandchildren Heather DeBlasio (Marcus), Austin Goodfriend, Emma Stelly, Ava Stelly, Benjamin Pitre (Jessica), Daniel Pitre (Lacey), Victoria Belleau (Bryan), Cody Smith, Chaz Guidroz, Nathan Kindel, Cooper Kindel, Oscar Kindel, and 15 great-grandchildren. Their countless memories and the love they shared with Wilson will forever be treasured.
During his life, Wilson was guided by his godmother Mary Anne Fontenot and had the privilege of being a godfather to Amy Vidrine.
A visitation in memory of Wilson Lee Stelly will take place on January 11, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Port Barre. The visitation will begin at 1:00 pm, followed by a prayer service at 1:30 pm. A Mass will be held at 2:00 pm to honor Wilson’s life and celebrate the legacy he leaves behind.
Wilson’s presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His kindness, talent, and unwavering love for his family and friends will forever remain in our hearts. May he rest in eternal peace as we carry forward his memory, inspired by the love that he shared with us.
Pallbearer will be Daniel Pitre.
