Wendel Joseph Olivier, 63, of Lawtell, Louisiana, passed away on January 23, 2025, at 4:02 p.m. at Oschner Lafayette General Hospital. Born on March 9, 1961, to Shirley Castille Olivier and the late Terlin Olivier, Wendel, fondly nicknamed “Fly” by his grandfather, was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and a steadfast friend to all who knew him.

Wendel had a deep appreciation for the outdoors, often spending time hunting and gardening. He delighted in watching old Westerns on television. He had a passion for cooking and possessed an exceptional talent for it. He took great joy in feeding anyone who entered his home, whether they arrived hungry or not. He would often urge, “Y’all eat, y’all eat,” making everyone feel cared for at his table. He cherished Sunday lunches surrounded by his children and grandchildren.

Despite facing significant health challenges in recent years, including a lymphoma diagnosis in 2018, Wendel’s determination and resilience were a testament to his enduring spirit. Before his illness, Wendel worked several years at Exxon in Baton Rouge, and prior to that, as a skilled carpenter, earning the respect of colleagues and clients alike for his dedication and craftsmanship.

Wendel is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Monica Reviere Olivier, whose unwavering love and partnership defined their life together. A proud and loving father, Wendel leaves behind four children: Holly Olivier-Morgan (Errold) of Villa Rica, Georgia; Michelle Olivier Duplechien (Ryan) of Lafayette, Louisiana, with their two children, Abram and Audriana; Rachel Olivier of Lawtell, Louisiana, with her two sons, Haven and Sawyer Ortego; and Jonathan Olivier (Ashley) of Greensburg, Louisiana, with their three children, Jackson, Beau, and Miley. Wendel is also survived by his four siblings: Randy Olivier (Judy) of Watson, Louisiana; Tracey Olivier Thibodeaux (Timothy) of Lawtell. Louisiana; Gail Olivier Melancon of Denham Springs, Louisiana; and Jody Olivier (Christina) of Denham Springs, Louisiana. His extended family and many close friends will cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his father, Terlin Olivier; his son, Joshua Olivier; his paternal grandparents, Theo and Louisiana Olivier; his maternal grandparents, Lilly Mae and Joel Castille, Sr.; and his Father-in-Law and Mother-in-Law, Robert and Ruby Reviere.

Pallbearers will be Randy Olivier, Jody Olivier, Ryan Duplechien, Justin Olivier, Jonathan Olivier, and Jeremy Thibodeaux.
