Vera Vige

March 3, 1925 — November 25, 2018

Vera Honeycutt Vige, age 93, of Natchitoches, Louisiana passed away on November 25, 2018, in the home of her daughter, Lisa Vige Bostick.

The Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas. Rev. Perry Hubbs of the First Baptist Church of Opelousas will conduct the service. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas. Burial will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.

Vera was born in Kurthwood, Louisiana on March 3, 1925. She graduated from Provencal High School and continued on to receive a Bachelor of Arts from Louisiana Normal College, a master's degree and 30 plus graduate hours from Northwestern State University.

Vera worked as an elementary school teacher for St. Landry Parish for 34 years. She enjoyed swimming, gardening, doing needlework, entertaining, and reading. She was also actively involved in the First Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and was a leader in WMU. She was a Pink Lady at Doctor's Hospital and served as president of the Pink Lady Board. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and several civic organizations. After retirement she had a personal ministry visiting friends that were homebound.

Vera is survived by her three daughters, Cynthia Vige Nowlin and husband, John of Lafayette, LA, Jeanne Vige Doggett of Shreveport, LA, and Lisa Vige Bostick of Natchitoches, LA; her 5 grandchildren, Allison Doggett Smeltzer and husband, Clifton of Texarkana, LA, Nicole Doggett and Carey Smith of Austin, TX, Monty Doggett, Jr. and wife, Jennifer of Baton Rouge, LA, David Bostick and wife, Megan of Lantana, TX, and Lindsey Bostick Stinson and husband, Nick of Lewisville, TX; her 5 great-grandsons; and a host of family and friends.

Vera is preceded in death by her parents, Ivey Honeycutt and Lettie Kay Honeycutt Gandy; her husband of 62 years, John Alden Vige; her brother, Herbert Ivan Honeycutt; her sister, Lawanda Honeycutt; and her great-granddaughter, Sophia Grace Smeltzer.

The family of Vera Honeycutt Vige wishes to thank Willis Knighton Pierremont Hospital of Shreveport, LA and Hospice of Natchitoches for their excellent care.
