OPELOUSAS-A Celebration of Life will be held for Sylvia Sibille on Sunday, December 4, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 4, 2022 from 12:00 noon until the time of service. Pastor Benny Reppond will officiate the service.
Sylvia, age 82, passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 in Oakdale, surrounded by her loving family.
Sylvia is survived by her sons, Lowell A. Sibille III & wife Wendy of Melville, Blane Sibille & wife Kitty of Austin, TX; one daughter, Jill Sibille Manuel and late husband, Mark Manuel of Lafayette; one brother, Vaughn Dodge & wife Stephanie of Krotz Springs; one sister, Norma Gardiner of Rayne; 9 grandchildren, Nicole Dupuis Oniciolio & husband Mike, Blane Lee Sibille Jr & wife Angela, Blair Sibille & wife Muneera, Seth Dupuis & wife Lorali, Allie Schexnayder & husband David, Saxon Sibille & wife Jenaye, Kara Sibille, Ariel Sibille and Ashton Sebastien; 16 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Sylvia is preceded in death by her daughter, Jeanine Marie Sibille; parents, Lee Roy & Fabiola Dodge; 2 brothers, Cyril Dodge and Eddie Dodge; one sister, Stephanie “Tessie” Dodge; son-in-law, Stephen Sebastien.
Sylvia, was a humble, kind hearted, generous & loving woman. She always put others before herself. Sylvia was also known as “Gammi” and “Big Red” by her family and friends. Sylvia was a true leader and inspiration in her community, a willing leader; helping the youth to have confidence to succeed as well. Her attributes were leading by example, strength and endurance; giving back to her family, friends and community; having hope and showing love to all she met. Sylvia’s many accomplishments in the community included; being the past President and Head Event Coordinator of the Bayou Ramble Antique Show, put on by the Opelousas Women’s Club. She was a past board member of the American Bank & Trust, the St. Landry Chamber of Commerce; and a recipient of the St. Landry Chamber of Commerce, "Business Woman of the Year Award".
Sylvia and Lowell Sibille were founders of Sibille Funeral Home, which has flourished since 1972 and is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year. The success of the funeral homes is due in large part to Sylvia’s true caring and compassion for the families she has served.
She battled Alzheimer’s for more than 15 years and through it all, she never lost her love for the Lord, family, and friends. Until she couldn’t speak, she would always say, “The Lord has blessed me”.
