Opelousas- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Si Gabriel Sonnier on Thursday, August 31, at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Lawtell. Fr. Mark Ledoux will be the celebrant for the Mass and Fr. Ted Broussard the con celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Bridget Cemetery in Lawtell.

Si Gabriel Sonnier, a lineman with a promising future and a heart of gold, has departed from this world. Si's journey began on December 22, 2004, in Lafayette. Throughout his relatively short life, Si touched the hearts of many and left an everlasting impression on those who had the privilege of knowing him. Si demonstrated an impressive work ethic in every task he undertook. Si's leadership, determination, and kind heart earned him great admiration among everyone he encountered and set him apart as an inspiration to all who crossed his path.

Si recently graduated from Port Barre High School, in May 2023,  and was award Best Dressed and Life of the Party, which is spot-on for anyone who knows him. With a love for baseball, Si distinguished himself among his peers. His teammates described as a passionate, selfless and amazing teammate and person. His peers state that he is the most genuine and friendly classmate. "Si was the life in every room he entered a 'do anything for anyone kinda guy".    

Outside of school and sports. Si was best known as an outdoorsman. He displayed unwavering dedications to hunting and fishing. He leaves behind an immense amount of love and memories for his boys at Brushy Bayou Hunting Club. The hunting club was his home and his ulimate place of peace.                                        

In moments of grief and sorrow, it is essential to gather together and seek solace in one another's company. Those who wish to pay their respects to Si Gabriel Sonnier are invited to attend visitation services at Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas. The first visitation is scheduled for August 30th, 2023, starting at 9:00 AM and concluding at 10:00 PM, with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. A second visitation will be held on August 31st, 2023, beginning at 8:00 AM and concluding at 12:30 PM. Both services will take place at the Sibille Funeral Home located at 2309 George Drive in Opelousas.

Following the visitations, a Mass will be held on August 31st, 2023, commencing at 1:00 PM. The Mass will be held at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Lawtell. This sacred event promises to bring solace and healing during these challenging times.

Si's memory will forever live on in the hearts of his surviving family and friends. Among those who deeply mourn his loss are his adoring father, Eddie "Jap" Sonnier, of Port Barre, LA, and his beloved mother, Rachelle Rose Fontenot of Prairie Ronde, LA. Si also leaves behind cherished memories for his maternal grandparents, Sharon Thibodeaux of Lawtell and Steve Fontenot and his wife, Angelina, of Prairie Ronde. Additionally, his paternal grandmother, Kiyoe "imi" Sonnier of Port Barre.

Si's siblings are left to carry forward his legacy with love and pride. His brother, Okyn Hilman Sonnier of Prairie Ronde, and sister, Lexi Sonnier Derouen and her husband Adam of Lafayette, will forever treasure the bond they shared with their beloved brother.

Si Gabriel Sonnier found immense joy in love and companionship during his time on earth. His girlfriend, Gracie "Dracie" Ryan Martel of Basile held in Si's heart. His close relationship with his abundance of cousins, and friends who were more like family, is something that meant the most to to Si. Their connections served as a testament to the profound impact Si had on others.

Among those left to cherish Si's memory is his niece, Evelyn Derouen, uncles: Jerry Sonnier; Bobby and Jenny Sonnier; Kirby and Brenda Sonnier; Debbie and Randy Buckley; Danielle and Blaine Moreau; Gabriel and Miranda Fontenot; Miguelle and J.D. Faul II; Samuel and Catherine Fontenot; Lionel and Alica Fontenot; Sharon Fontenot. Their shared moments of laughter, tears, joy, and love will forever be etched in their hearts.

Si Gabriel Sonnier now joins his grandfather Edmond Joseph Sonnier Sr., who awaits him in Paradise. Though departed from our life on Earth, their spirits will forever remain intertwined, guiding and watching over their loved ones.

In embracing memories and undertaking the difficult task of bidding farewell, we find solace in acknowledging that Si Gabriel Sonnier's radiant spirit will continue shining brightly in the hearts of all those he encountered. As we gather to celebrate his life, let us remember Si for the warmth, kindness, and passion that defined him—a remarkable young man whose unwavering spirit will forever be cherished and eternally missed.

May Si Gabriel Sonnier's soul find eternal peace and may his memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to us all.
