Port Barre – A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Sherman Thomas Nugent, Jr. on Saturday, December 18, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Port Barre. Fr. Clint Trahan will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Leo Cemetery in Leonville.
Mr. Nugent, age 78, a resident of Port Barre, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Nugent was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He managed the Gulf South Lumber Yard in Arnaudville for many years. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and carpentry. Mr. Nugent will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Mr. Nugent is survived by his wife of 43 years, Cecile Nugent of Port Barre; sons, Matthew Scott Nugent and wife, Julie Prejean Nugent of Port Barre, Thomas Andrew Nugent of Pecaniere; daughter, Amanda Marie Nugent of Port Barre; 2 grandchildren, Jack Matthew Nugent and Grant Logan Nugent.
Mr. Nugent is preceded by his parents, Sherman Trueheart Nugent, Sr. and Wilda Marie Leblanc Nugent.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 18, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Port Barre. The Rosary will be recited at 11:30 a.m. by Mrs. BooBoo Soileau.
The family would like to offer a special thanks to Heart of Hospice and their staff especially, Nurse Jessica Domec and Nurses Aid “Cookie”. They would also like to thank Mrs. BooBoo Soileau for offering weekly communion rites.
