LEONVILLE– A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Roderick “Boo” Bergeron at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, February 6, 2026, in the St. Leo Catholic Church in Leonville. The Very Rev. Darren J. Eldridge, VF will officiate the Mass. Rite of Committal will follow in the St. Leo Cemetery.
Roderick "Boo" Bergeron, a beloved figure in his community, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026, at the Calcutta House, surrounded by his devoted family. Born on December 22, 1954, in Opelousas, Louisiana, Boo was a man of remarkable character and unwavering dedication to those he loved.
After graduating from Leonville High School, Boo pursued his education further, earning a bachelor's degree from USL. This foundation supported him throughout a successful career as a road salesman for Bumper to Bumper formerly known as Dimmick's Supply, where he became known for his strong work ethic and ability to build lasting relationships with clients.
Boo was not only proficient in his professional life but also a man with rich personal interests. He cherished moments spent outdoors, particularly hunting and fishing, which allowed him to connect with nature and his loved ones. His passion for camping provided him with countless memories with family and friends alike. A sports enthusiast, he also enjoyed watching games and refereeing basketball, further immersing himself in the joy of athletic competition.
A man of many talents, Boo was an excellent gardener whose skill in the kitchen delighted family members during gatherings where he took great pleasure in cooking meals for them. Above all else, he deeply valued the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and fulfillment.
Boo is survived by his wife of 37 years, Janice Fontenot Bergeron; son, Chris Bergeron (Suzanne); daughter, Rachel Bergeron; 4 grandchildren; Katherine Thibodeaux, Madison Thibodeaux, Tyler Bergeron (Kayla), Lillian Bergeron; 3 great-grandchildren, Hayes Bergeron, Brayli Bergeron and Linley Bergeron; in- laws, Cheryl F. Bonfanti, Enola F. Stoute (Bob), Johnny R. Fontenot (Tammy), Ricky “Dut” Fontenot (Melissa), Cindy F. Graham (Mike), Ronald “Roach” Babin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Boo is preceded in death by his parents, Rodney “Beb” Bergeron and Rita Bergeron; father and mother-in-law, Royson “Son” Fontenot and Hilda “Teda” Lalonde Fontenot; brothers-in-law, Ray and Mike Fontenot; and sister-in-law, Jenelle F. Babin.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas. The rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday evening with the eulogy to follow. Visitation will resume on Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Chris Bergeron, Tyler Bergeron, Johnny Fontenot, Derek Fontenot, Bob Stoute and Jimmy Pastorick.
Boo will be remembered fondly for his caring spirit and the love he shared with those around him. He leaves behind his adoring family who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts. His legacy of kindness, laughter, and devotion will live on in the stories told and the lives he touched throughout his journey.
