Opelousas- A Mass of Christian Burial for Norman Joseph Carroll will be held at 11:00 am on May 23, 2026 in the Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas. Fr. Jude Thierry will officiate the Mass. Burial will follow in the Verrett Cemetery in Swords La.
A Rosary will be prayed at 10:00 am. Visitation will follow after the Rosary until time of Mass in the Our Lady of mercy Catholic Church.
Norman, a devoted family man and valued Maintenance Supervisor, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on April 26, 2026, at his home in Sunset, Louisiana. Born on June 20, 1940, in Abbeville, Louisiana, Norman lived a life marked by dedication, service, and deep love for those closest to him.
Norman proudly served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Watchman, where he earned the Good Conduct Medal, a testament to his honorable and disciplined service. Following his military career, Norman applied his steadfast work ethic and leadership skills as a Maintenance Supervisor, a role in which he excelled and was respected by colleagues.
Beyond his professional achievements, Norman was known as a very loving person who cherished his family with all his heart. His passions included gardening and caring for his cattle, activities through which he found peace and fulfillment. In retirement, he especially treasured the time spent with his children and grandchildren, embracing every moment with joy and warmth.
Norman is lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Florence “Flo” Brown Carroll of Sunset, whose partnership was a cornerstone of his life. He is also survived by his son, Matthew Carroll, and his wife Laycie of Sunset; his daughter, Michelle Russell, and her husband David, also of Sunset. brothers Wilfred "Willie" Carroll, Jr. and his wife Linda of Stone Mountain, Georgia, Elbon "Bonney" Leonard Carroll and his wife, Peggy, sisters, Freddie Fontenot and her husband, Vincent of Opelousas, Jeanne Arceneaux of Zachary, and Debra "Debbie" Pierrottie and her husband Doug of Lafayette. Norman’s legacy extends through his cherished grandchildren: Seth Costley (Ramona), Kerstin Hibbert (Orion), Alexis Carroll, Gracie Russell and her fiancé Tyler Vidrine, and Cody Russell and his fiancé Britney Lahocki. His love further enveloped his great-grandchildren—Walker, Weston, Hattie, Elliot, Jasper, and Autumn—who brought him immense joy.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents, Wilfred and Mable Carroll, his sister, Madeline Carroll, and one great-granddaughter, Millie, who remain fondly remembered in the family’s hearts.
Throughout his life, Norman Joseph Carroll exemplified devotion, kindness, and integrity. His memory will forever be cherished by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
