Obituary

Opelousas- Funeral service will be held for Nelda Credeur Stelly on Thursday, July 17, 2026, at 2:15 pm in Sibille Funeral Home Chapel of Opelousas. Fr. Michael Vidrine will officiate the service. Burial will follow in the St. Leo Mausoleum in Leonville.

Visitation will be held on Thursday in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas from 10:00 am until time of service. The Rosary will be recited at 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel.

Nelda, born on June 27, 1936, in Port Barre, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2026, at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home. As her journey comes to a gentle close, those who knew Nelda remember a life marked with love, resilience, and deep ties to family.

Nelda was born to Wilfred and Anita Roy Credeur, who nurtured her in a warm and caring home, instilling in her the values of kindness and integrity.

Nelda is survived by her brothers, Raymond Credeur of Port Allen, LA and Floyd Credeur of Port Barre; her sisters, Anna Mae McBride of Rosco, Texas, Beatrice Fontenot Gayle of Baker, LA, Annie Miller of Opelousas, and Gloria Higginbotham and her husband Dean of Washington; sister-in-laws, Judy Credeur of Port Barre, Tina Credeur of Port Barre, and Jane Portal of Jefferson, LA.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Letton Stelly; her parents, Wilfred and Anita Roy Credeur; her brothers, Joseph C. Fra Credeur, Harold Credeur, and Wilfred Credeur, Jr.; her sisters, Willie Mae Lalonde and Shirley Dupuis
