PORT BARRE- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mrs. Murphy Marks on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Port Barre. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service; the rosary will be recited at 12:00 noon in the Sibille Funeral Home in Port Barre. Fr. Henry Antony will celebrate the Mass. Burial will follow at St. Charles Cemetery in Grand Coteau.
Murphy B. Marks, a beloved matriarch and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2024, at Opelousas General Hospital. Born in Carencro, Louisiana, on August 18, 1926, Murphy famously known as “Mighty Mouse” was the embodiment of strength and kindness throughout her 98 years of life.
Murphy's early years were marked by hard work in the fields, where she developed an unwavering work ethic that would guide her throughout her life. She wore many hats, serving as a caring nanny devoted to the children she looked after and a diligent housekeeper. Her compassion and nurturing spirit extended to everyone she encountered.
For nearly two decades, Murphy poured her heart into her role at Savoie's Sausage Kitchen where she became a beloved figure among her colleagues. Her infectious laughter and genuine kindness made the workplace feel like a second home.
Beyond her professional life, she cherished her time spent gardening, nurturing the soil as she nurtured her relationships with family and friends. An avid people watcher, she took delight in observing the world around her. Alongside this, she found joy in watching TV game shows, where her competitive spirit shone brightly.
Mrs. Murphy is survived by her daughter, Joyce Lanclos; 4 grandchildren, Pam Lamke (Arthur), Steven Ryder, Sr. (Melissa), Dawn Lanclos (Miguel), Terrie Jaramillo (Rolan); 11 great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Murphy is preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Marks, Sr.; her son, Leroy Marks, Jr.; her parents, Louis Bergeron Sr. and Aleta Brasseaux Bergeron; siblings, Curley Bergeron, Louis Bergeron, Jr., Kermick Bergeron, Hilda Courville and Amy Stelly; granddaughter, Dana Polozola; daughter-in-law, Dedree Ryder; son-in-law, Ronald Lanclos.
Pallbearers will be Steven Ryder, Sr., Ty Lamke, Christian Lamke, Arthur Lamke, Rolan Jaramillo, Zane Jaramillo.
Murphy's legacy is one of love, resilience, and unwavering dedication to those she held dear. As we remember her today, we honor a life beautifully lived, filled with kindness, laughter, and warmth that will forever echo in the hearts of her family and friends.
