Grand Coteau– A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mills Joseph Vautrot on Saturday, June 11, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Grand Coteau. Rite of Committal will follow in the church cemetery.
Mills, age 87, entered into eternal rest on Friday, June 3, 2022, at his residence in Sunset surrounded by his loving family.
Mills served for 23 years at St. Ignatius School as P.T.A. President, School Board President, and an advisor to the school board. He served for over 33 years with the Farmers Home Administration and upon his retirement he was the District Director for 8 parishes. Mills was a sales representative for 25 years with Newton Manufacturing Company and Halo Branded Solutions for 6 years. He was a member of the Lafayette Kiwanis, the Cattlemen’s Association, and the Toastmaster’s Club. Mills was a member of the South St. Landry Community Library where he served as President for 2 years. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Mills is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jacquline McBride Vautrot; sons, William Griffith Vautrot and Griffith Mills Vautrot, Jr.; daughter, Jill Denise Wynn; grandchildren, Chloe “CoCo” Simone Wynn and Gabriel Joseph Vautrot; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mills is preceded in death by his parents, Louis Vautrot and Ethel Mills Vautrot; sisters, Earline Sandefur and husband, R.D. Sandefur, Willie Wava Mathews and husband, Victor Mathews; and granddaughter, Christina Dominique Jonviere Vautrot.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 10, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas. The rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Friday evening. The funeral home will reopen on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.
