Mary Catherine Hardke Stephen was born on December 1, 1955 in New Orleans, LA., and entered into eternal rest on Sunday, December 27, 2020.

Mary was a graduate of Nicholl’s University with a B. S. in Speech Pathology. At the time of her death, she was employed by Sonny’s Audio Video, working as an office manager for the company.

Mary is survived by her son, Kevin Boitmann, her brother, William F. Hardke, Jr. (Lori), nieces, Stacy Bagby-Bordelon (Brad) and Lori Graff (Chris), great-nieces, Beverly Bagby and Emalynn Bordelon, her great-nephews, PFC Aaron Graff, Christopher Graff, Jr., and Austin Graff. Mary is also survived by her husband’s loving family, including step-sons, Brett Stephen (Bridgett) and Glenn Stephen (Cassie), brothers, sisters, and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John “Johnny” Stephen, her parents, William F. Hardke, Sr., and Hazel Carolyn Hardke, her sister, Beverly Hardke Johnson and stepson, Scott Stephen. They are all in Heaven rejoicing together in God’s grace.

Mary lived most of her life in Metairie and Destrehan, until relocating to Arnaudville to marry her long-time love, Johnny, whom she met while attending Nicholls. Mary and Johnny built their dream home together, and subsequently met many new friends in Arnaudville by whom she will be greatly missed. Mary enjoyed working for her brother-in-law, Joseph “Sonny” Stephen, Jr., and became know as “Mama Mary” by the employees. She enjoyed spending time with her two dogs, Bubba and Mommi, her cat, CC, and assisting with the care of her friend’s horses. She loved bowling and playing golf, but most of all, Mary strong in her faith of prayer for her family and loved ones.

A private family service will be on Saturday, January 9, 2021. A public celebration of Life will be held at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Animal Rescue New Orleans or St. Landry Paris Animal Control, you can visit their website.
