Mary Ann Stoute Kilchrist, age 96, entered into eternal rest at 3:33 p.m. on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at her residence in Lafayette surrounded by her loved ones.
A native and resident of Leonville and Lafayette, Mary Ann worked as a Secretary/ Bookkeeper for Stansbury Real Estate and Insurance, Dr. Bliss K. Shafer, and St. Mary Church all in Lafayette. She devoted her life to her loving son, Kim, whom she adored. When she retired, they returned to Leonville to take care of her parents and 9 siblings who were getting old and sick, they really needed her and kept her busy. She loved and cared for all her family; was the cook and housekeeper for the entire family and friends, and all who visited. After losing all their siblings, they moved back to Lafayette.
They were a happy, loving family who grew up on a farm. To her friends and relatives, her saying was “work doesn’t kill, anyone, you see, I’m 96.”
She loved to take pictures, had at least 12 photo albums; in her later years, she’d sit and enjoy looking back at all her family photos.
She loved the outdoors, her pride and joy was her yard, planting flowers; her favorite were pink roses.
Without her caretakers: Candace Daigle, Mannette Smith, Stephanie Roy and Barry Kilchrist, she would not have survived as long as she did following the passing of her beloved son, Kim.
Survivors included a stepson, Barry Louis Kilchrist; two nieces, Elizabeth C. White and Suzanne C. Theriot; one nephew, Michael Credeur; six great nieces and nephews, Toby and Chelsy White, Rena, Eric and Emily Credeur, and Justin Theriot; and several great-grand nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving son, Kim Anthony Kilchrist; her husband, Raymond J. Kilchrist; her parents, Clebert and Marie R. Stoute; her three brothers, Joseph “Joe”, Ray and Andrew Stoute; six sisters, Essie, Irene and Joyce Stoute, Mae S. Thibodeaux, Pearl S. Thibodeaux, and Elise S. Credeur; a nephew, Elwood “Jay” Credeur; and a stepdaughter, Mona Rae Kilchrist.
Pallbearers will be Barry Kilchrist, Tommy Delhomme, Kirk Stelly, Jesse Roy, Douglas Daigle and Jamie Bergeron.
A very special thank you, to Cindy Zerangue, for her love and care, as she stayed by Mary Ann’s side holding her hand in her final days. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Heart of Hospice, especially her nurses, Lana Martin and Treashur Naquin.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Mary Ann and her son, Kim, to the St. Leo Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 544, Leonville, LA 70551.
