Opelousas

Opelousas—A Memorial service will be held for Mary “Faith” Aucoin on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in the Epiphany Episcopal Church in Opelousas. Visitation will be held in the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Inurnment will follow at St. Charles Cemetery in Grand Coteau.

Faith Aucoin, a beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2025, at Prompt Succor Nursing Home, surrounded by her cherished family. She was born on June 10, 1956, and graced the world with her kindness and compassion for many years.

Faith's career was marked by her commitment to the well-being of others. As a registered nurse and director of nursing at Senior Village Nursing Home, she devoted herself tirelessly to the care of her patients, always advocating for their needs with grace and determination.

Outside of her professional life, Faith found immense joy in her hobbies. She was a passionate quilter, creating beautiful pieces that showcased her creativity and dedication. In addition to quilting, she dove into the world of mosaic glasswork, where she transformed fragments into stunning art.

Faith's proudest accomplishments, however, were not found in her career or hobbies; they were rooted deeply in the love she held for her family. She delighted in spending time with her grandchildren, cherishing every moment shared with them. Her love extended further to her beloved dog, "Cutie Pie," who brought boundless joy to her days, and to her late husband Mikchel, whose memory she carried with her in her heart. Faith was always so positive, no matter the circumstances. She had the biggest heart and loved her friends and family unconditionally.

Faith is survived by her son, Matthew Richard of Opelousas; daughter, Krystal Richard and husband Kevin of Prosper, TX; brother, Ronald Leger and wife Pat of Opelousas; 4 grandchildren, Camrin Richard, Connor Richard, Isabelle Richard and Carter Richard.

Faith was preceded in death by her husband, Mikchel Aucoin; parents, Alphonse Leger and Rena LaFleur Leger; brother, Curtis Leger; and sister, Beverly Fontenot.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to Cheri Dubroc, Gloria Lalonde, Fr. Laurent De Prins, Sherl Picchioni, Barbara Baronne and all of her church family at the Epiphany for their love and support.

Though Faith has departed this world, her love remains stitched into every quilt, every memory, every laugh shared with her, and every heart she touched.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Epiphany Episcopal Church in Opelousas, in honor of Faith’s memory.

Words of Comfort to the family may be expressed at www.sibillefuneralhomes.com. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas.
