October 3, 1961 — February 1, 2018

Opelousas- A Funeral Service will be held for, Mark Toten, on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. in the Unity Baptist Church in Opelousas, LA, with visitation beginning in the church at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Pastor Greg Gaspard will conduct the service.

Mark Steven Toten, 56, of Opelousas passed away tragically and unexpectedly at Opelousas General Health System on February 1, 2018 with family and friends by his side.

He was born to Elend Allen Toten and Stella Ann Gunter on October 3, 1961 in Galveston, Texas. Mark enjoyed many years working offshore until his career sadly came to an abrupt end in 2006. The accident offshore left Mark unable to return to work. It was a very trying time in Mark's life but he found strength from God, his wife, kids, and grand-daughter to make the best of the situation handed to him. Unity Baptist Church held a special place in Mark's heart, as he was baptized there and attended weekly bible studies. Unity Baptist Church also blessed him with Pastor Greg Gaspard and his spiritual advisor, Bill Weaver, as they both had a great impact on his life in helping him to overcome his worldly troubles. His fur-baby Rico was his pride and joy and remained at his side through all that life threw at him. Later on came his first grand-daughter, Isabelle Claire, who was the apple of his eye. To much surprise, when "Izzy" was 11, her first cousin Ethan Lane was born. Poppie looked forward to watching the Saints in years to come with his "Bubba". Ethan will not remember Poppie but his memory will be very much alive and stories of him will be shared.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Zerangue-Toten; son, Shawn Comeaux and girlfriend, Samantha Dauzet and her son, Dayton; daughter, Marita Comeaux and boyfriend, Joey Boone; brothers, Allen Toten and wife, Kim, Billy Toten, and Larry Toten; grand-daughter, Isabelle Comeaux; grandson, Ethan Comeaux; nephews, Trey and Zach Toten, Billy Toten, Jr., Chase Zerangue, Matthew Toten and wife, Amanda, and thier kids Emma and Patrick; brother-in-law, David Zerangue and wife, Debbie; father-in-law, Leon Zerangue and mother-in-law, Patsy Zerangue.

He was preceded in death by his father, Elend Allen Toten; mother, Stella Ann Gunter; sister, Sara Ann Toten; and his best friend, Odon Pena.
Pallbearers will include Shawn Comeaux, Joey Boone, Matthew Toten, Markell Jolivette, Ronnie Duplechain, and Bill Weaver.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Mark's wife, Linda Zerangue-Toten, for medical expenses.
