PORT BARRE- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Marie Juanita Bryant on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Port Barre. Fr. Clint Trahan will celebrate the mass. Burial will follow at the church mausoleum.
Juanita, a resident of Port Barre, entered into eternal rest on September 6, 2022, at the age of 93. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Juanita worked as a Secretary at the Indian Hills Country Club, Opelousas, LA for over 25 years. She served as a substitute teacher between 1970-1980. She was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Port Barre, LA and served on various church committees.
Juanita was a member of the Indian Hills Country Club, the LA Golf Course Sloping committee, and the Ladies Gold Association. Juanita had also achieved the golfers dream of a making “Hole in One”. When she wasn’t on the golf course, she enjoyed making memories with her family, fishing, and spending summers in Grand Isle.
Juanita is survived by her children, Rebecca Bryant Bass and husband, Joe of Breaux Bridge, Samuel R. Bryant of Colorado Springs, CO, Rosemarie Bryant of Lafayette and Reneé J. Bryant Bergner of Port Barre; brother, James “Jimmy” E. Kennison and wife, Gloria of Port Barre; 6 grandchildren, Jennifer Bass Allain (Justin), Jeanné Bass Norwood (Bradley), Michael Bryant McIver (Bethany), Sarah Bryant Slattery (Tim), Stephanie Bryant Porras (Oscar) and Samantha Bryant Murphy (Kevin); and 5 great-grandchildren, Braydin J. Kenly, Bennett S. Kenly, Avery J. Tassin, Caroline R. McIver and Wesley J. McIver.
Juanita is preceded in death by her husband, Samuel “Sammy” Bryant; parents, Raoul “Rap” Kennison and Hilda Herbert Kennison Guillory; brother, R.J. Kennison; and daughter-in-law, Darcel Rue Bryant.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Sibille Funeral Home in Port Barre. The rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. on Friday evening. Visitation will resume on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
Juanita’s family would like to thank all the family and friends that have given their love, support, and prayers during this time. A special thank you to Juanita’s caregivers, Cheryl Fontenot, Desi Nations, and Connie Guidry. The compassion and support given by Hospice of Acadiana (Lafayette, LA) are greatly appreciated, especially by their staff members, Kristina Moorman, Kimberly Bernard, Deacon Jerry Wyble, Kent Zerangue, Tara Sibille and Patrice Webb.
