Opelousas--A visitation will be held for Lionel Joseph Leger on Sunday, February 15, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home by Deacon Dwayne Joubert.
Lionel, a beloved figure to his family and friends, passed away on February 12, 2026, at the Opelousas General Health System. Born on October 17, 1946, in Prairie Ronde, Louisiana, Lionel lived a life filled with hard work, dedication to his craft, and deep-seated love for his family.
As the operator of Heavy Equipment, Lionel was known for his strong work ethic and unwavering commitment to excellence in his career. His skills and expertise in the field were matched only by his genuine passion for life and the simple joys it brought. Outside of work, Lionel embraced a variety of hobbies that reflected his vibrant personality. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, and baseball, activities that allowed him to connect with nature and share cherished moments with those he held dear.
Lionel's spirit shone brightly through his relationships, as he was known to love all of his family and friends profoundly. He leaves behind his devoted sons, John Leger and his wife, Bobbie Jo of Prairie Ronde and Josh Leger, fiancé' Tamara Comeaux. His daughter, Lisa Leger Roberie, also resides in Prairie Ronde. Lionel is survived by his brothers, Charles Leger of Opelousas, Wilburt "Blanc" Leger, and Eldon "Donnie" Leger, all of Prairie Ronde, as well as his sisters, Rita Arnaud, Geraldine Venable, and Brenda Leger, who also reside in Prairie Ronde and Opelousas.
A proud grandfather, Lionel is remembered fondly by his grandchildren, Skyla Roberie Belleau, John Trevor Leger, Hannah Roberie Janise, Robyn Casey Leger, Taylor Cole Leger, and Jayden Roberie. His legacy is further enriched by the love of his 16 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren, who brought immeasurable joy to his life.
Lionel was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Charlene Soileau Leger, his parents, Gerice and Eva Leger, and his brother, Paul Leger. Though his absence leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, Lionel’s memory will forever resonate through the lives he touched and the love he shared. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the honor of knowing him.
