Port Barre--A Mass of Christian Burial for Lester Lehn Bourque will be held on Monday, August 3, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Port Barre. Reverend Father Henry Antony and Deacon Mitch Hebert will concelebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal and interment will be at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Port Barre.

Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 2, 2026, in the Sibille Funeral Home in Port Barre. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday evening in the funeral home. Visitation will continue on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home.

Lester Lehn Bourque was born on February 6, 1944, in New Orleans, Louisiana, and passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at his residence in Port Barre on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at the age of 82.

He took immense pride in his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nurturing them with affection and wisdom. His love for his wife and family was unwavering, and he created countless memories filled with joy and laughter.

Throughout his storied life, Lester was proud to call Louisiana his home, cherishing the traditions and deep-rooted values that shaped his character. Known for his steadfast spirit and dedication to his community, he was a beloved presence to all who knew him.

Lester's proudest accomplishment was being the owner of Bourque’s Supermarket in Port Barre, being a partner in the business with his father since 1962. For 64 years, he was able to serve the town of Port Barre with their grocery needs and meat market. He was involved in the community as a member of the Opelousas Elks Lodge, where he found camaraderie and a shared commitment to service among friends. Additionally, he was honored to be a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 3496 of Port Barre, Louisiana, which was a testament to his faith and devotion to helping others. He was a longtime parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Port Barre.

He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed playing golf, watching horse races, and several sports teams-LSU Tigers, NY Yankees, New Orleans Saints, and whatever team his grandchildren were playing on during the season. He also enjoyed playing Poker with his friends testing his luck. Lester's journey was marked by gentle kindness and genuine goodwill. He will be dearly missed and remembered for the friendships he nurtured, his steady presence, and the positive influence he had on those fortunate enough to cross his path.

Lester is survived by his wife of 62 years, Willie “Nuggie” Bourque; son, Shannon Bourque and wife, Veronica; two daughters, Tracy Ryan and husband, Pat; and Dana Bourque and husband, Keith; two brothers, Homer Bourque and Karl Bourque; sister, Mona Thompson; 10 grandchildren: Patrick Ryan (Taylor), Kelly Maun (Jordan), Connor Ryan, Kimberly Galland (Jace), Nick Savant (Chelsea), Whitney Vedell (CJ), Hilary Charles (Hez), Zac Bourque, Jolie Byrd (Jared), and Oakley Bourque (Emma); and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by parents, Adolph Bourque and Yvonne Prudhomme Bourque; and sister, Geri Hebert.

Pallbearers will be Nick Savant, Hunter Runyan, Patrick Ryan, Connor Ryan, Zac Bourque, and Oakley Bourque. Honorary pallbearers will be Jace Galland, Jordan Maun, CJ Vedell, Jared Byrd, and Hez Charles. Junior honorary pallbearers will be Carter Savant, Drake Savant, and Hudson Vedell.

Lester’s warmth, kindness, and dedication to his loved ones will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his family and friends, who will carry his memory forward with love and gratitude in the hearts of all who loved and respected him.
