Larry Gilbert Douglas passed away at 70 years old after a 9 1/2 year battle with breast cancer on Sunday, August 6, 2017.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Betsy Coke Douglas; his sister, Gail Douglas Dauterive; his two children, Rachel Douglas Ducharme (Scott), Kyle Wade Douglas (Gretchen); his grandchildren, Ashton Joshua Strohmeyer, Wes Daniel Douglas and step-granddaughter, Sydney Lillian Ducharme. He is also survived by one niece, five nephews, two sister-in-laws and one brother-in-law.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Rufus Turner Douglas and Evelyn Kubes Douglas.

Larry was a New Orleans native and a lifelong resident who moved to Lafayette, Louisiana in 2005. He graduated from Holy Cross High School in 1964. During this time, his journey with his faith strengthened while teaching catechism to younger students. He also volunteered his time for many charitable causes earlier in life thru his membership in the Jaycees and The Knights of Columbus. He served his country proudly in the Navy during the Vietnam War onboard the submarine, USS Bream. Larry worked for over 25 years for K&B Drugs Corporate office located at Lee Circle. He began his career as a programmer and eventual Director of the IT department and was later promoted to Vice President. After K&B sold, he went on to acquire his MBA from Tulane University at 58 years old and later received his internal auditor certification. After receiving his MBA he was invited to join the teaching staff at Tulane where he enjoyed teaching prior to his relocation to Lafayette after Hurricane Katrina. Larry served on the Board of Directors for Holy Cross High School and was involved in the relocation of the new campus construction post Hurricane Katrina. For the last 12 years he has worked as an international internal auditor for Newpark Resources. His position allowed him the opportunity to enjoy his love for worldwide traveling. Larry was known by all for his strong love and faith in God, his family and his kind demeanor. He was devout in his faith attending mass weekly, serving as a Eucharist Minister to the sick, a church lector and a weekly participant in 24 hour vigil services at his church's adoration chapel. Larry very much enjoyed yearly retreats at Manresa. His courage, gentle nature and boisterous laugh will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
