Kathryn, a beloved college professor and cherished member of the Opelousas community, passed away on May 4, 2025, at the Opelousas General Health System. Born on April 15, 1955, in Opelousas, Kathryn dedicated her life to the pursuit of knowledge and the education of countless students.
Kathryn earned her PhD in English Literature, a testament to her unwavering passion for literature and the arts, which she imparted to her students with enthusiasm and dedication. She was known for her insightful lectures and her ability to inspire those around her. Kathryn’s commitment to education extended beyond the classroom; she was a mentor and guide to many, nurturing the next generation of thinkers and writers.
Her professional achievements were matched by her deep love for her family. Kathryn is survived by her brother, Walter O. Stubbs of Opelousas, who remembers her as a remarkable sister and an extraordinary individual. She was predeceased by her husband, James F. Smith, and her parents, Henry and Vera Stubbs, brother, George Wynne Stubbs (Wynne), who played significant roles in shaping her compassionate spirit and intellectual curiosity.
