Kathleen entered into eternal rest on Friday, October 6, 2023 at her residence in Lafayette surrounded by her family.

Kathleen was born on October 11, 1932 to Claire and August Gonsoulin. She graduated from Sunset High School and had many accomplishments during her 90 years of life. She married her first love Sal May in 1952 and became a mother of three children. They had a beautiful marriage that lasted 50 years until his death in 2002. While raising children she worked as a teacher at St. Ignatius School and the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau. Her later career had her following in her mother’s footsteps as a postal clerk at the Sunset Post Office for over 25 years. She came from a very musical family and her love of music and dance never faded with age. She sang with the Soundwaves which was a musical chorale group under the direction of Kenny Bowen. She loved to dance and attended Friday night dances at the Petroleum Club with Jeffery who became her husband in 2005. They also enjoyed traveling in the United States and Europe. Her most important role was that of a wife and mother. She cherished her family and was able to enjoy the love of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Kathleen had a wonderful personality, beautiful smile, and a very hearty laugh. Her family feels fortunate to have so many wonderful memories to cherish for a lifetime.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, Claire and August Gonsoulin; her beloved husband, Sal May; daughter, Melody Smith; great-grandson, Adam Rushing; and sister, Dianne Heaney.

Kathleen is survived by her husband of 18 years, Jeffery David; daughter, Claire (Gio) Levi; son, Brian (Tami) May; sister, Karen (Darrell) Bourque; brother, August Gonsoulin, Jr. Grandchildren include Melissa Smith, Jennifer (Jason) Cherrie, Adrienne (Dane) Burnett, Lauren (Hani) Alkoot, Blair (Pedro) Garza, Megan (William) Montgomery, Lindsi (Stephen) Theunissen, Lance May, and Logan May.
