Judith Day McKoin Thomasson, age 79, passed away peacefully in her home in Melville, Louisiana, in the loving presence of her family, on January 25, 2026. She was born on October 7, 1946, in Baton Rouge, to Mildred and Polk Dallas McKoin, and grew up on the farm in Jones, Louisiana. She graduated with honors from Bonita High School and attended Northeast Louisiana University before moving to Baton Rouge, where she met the love of her life, Herbert Thomasson. Judith and Herbert planted roots in the community of Melville, Louisiana, where they began their life together on the farm, growing not only crops but a beautiful family.
Judith’s greatest joy was her family, especially her beloved husband, Herbert Thomasson, of 56 years whom she loved fiercely and proudly. Together they built a life grounded in love, guided by faith, and blessed by God’s grace. She was a proud and loving mother to her three daughters, Ashley Thomasson Venable (Carl), Amy Thomasson, and Amanda Dean (Jeremy). She was a cherished grandmother to her seven grandchildren, Dallas Paul Ardoin (Lacey), Judith Leigh Lanclos (Colby), Isabelle Venable Beene (Ethan), Reed Ardoin, Caroline Venable, Carly Venable, and Mary Holland Dean, and an adoring great-grandmother to John-Reed, Turner-Kate, and Jack-Dallas Ardoin, Wren and Bowen James Lanclos, all of whom were the light of her life.
She is survived by her sisters, Winnie Goodwin (David) and Gail Ayers, and her sisters-in-love, Jolie Joffrion, Ruby Hanka, Emily Leon (Charles), and Charlotte Silvio, along with her precious nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mildred and Polk Dallas McKoin; her sister, Nancy Glosup; and her parents-in-law, Ruby and Joe Thomasson and brothers in law, Anthony Ayers, Donald Glosup, William Hanka, Eddie Joffrion and Jerry Silvo.
Judith was a devoted member of the Melville Methodist Church, where her love for God was central to her life. Her faith guided her daily actions, and she found joy and purpose in worship and serving through her church. Judith was a proud and dedicated member of the Melville Women’s Club, for 53 years, where she embodied the spirit of service. Giving to others came naturally to her. She was always helping, always serving, and always finding ways to support her community. Her kindness reached far beyond her own family, touching the lives of many. Above all else, Judith loved deeply and openly. She was endlessly proud of her husband, her children, and the generations that followed. Her legacy is one of love, generosity, and steady grace, and it will live on through the family and community she cared for so deeply. Judith will be remembered for her generous spirit, her steadfast love, sense of humor and the blessings she poured into the lives of all who knew her.
Pallbearers will be Dallas Ardoin, Reed Ardoin, Jeremy Dean, Zachary Goodwin, Josh Goodwin and Carl Venable.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Ethan Beene, Brad Joffrion, Jeff Joffrion, Shane Joffrion, Colby Lanclos, Max Mancheski, and Terry Mengarelli.
