Joseph "Red" Duplechin

March 8, 1926 — February 11, 2022

Lawtell- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Joseph “Red” Leroy Duplechin on Monday, February 14, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Lawtell. Fr. Ted Broussard will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Bridget Cemetery.

Joseph, age 95, a resident of Gonzales and native of Lawtell, entered into eternal rest on Friday, February 11, 2022 at his daughter’s residence surrounded by his loving family.

Joseph served his country proudly in the United States Army during World War II. In his younger years he enjoyed going out dancing with his late wife. Joseph was a devout catholic and enjoyed going to church with his wife, they prayed religiously together. He raised a multitude of animals and birds following his retirement from Freeport McMoran.  Joseph will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his daughter, Darlene “Dene” D. Carpenter and husband, Kirby; brother, Hilton Joseph Duplechien (Angie); grandchildren, Misty Duplechin Smiley (Gerard), Benjamin "Ben" Little (Wendy), Daniel “Joey” Duplechin. Jr. (Bekah), Lacy Joan Duplechin and Jake M. Duplechin (Ashley); great-grandchildren, Dane Smiley, Danae Smiley, Dannon Smiley, Angele Little, Alexander Little, Archer Duplechin, Willow Duplechin and Ezra Duplechin.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Marie Duplechin; son, Daniel Joseph Duplechin, Sr.; great-granddaughter, Anah Little; great-grandson, Corbin Duplechin; parents, Joseph Clofed and Marie Alexandrine Duplechien; and sibilings, Marie Armezia Duplechien Oliver (Percy), Ovelien Duplechien (Agnes), Edina Duplechien Smith (Octave), Jean Baptiste Duplechien, Paul Duplechien, Leon Duplechien (Judy), Lloyd Duplechien (Ann) and Jean “Gene” Duplechien.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 14, 2022 from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas.

Pallbearers will be Kirby Carpenter, Benjamin Little, Dane Smiley, Gerard Smiley, Ory Duplechin and Irvin “Red” Huval. Honorary pallbearers will be Alexander Charles Little and Dannon Matthew Smiley.
