Joseph Pierre Stephens

Opelousas--Funeral services will be held for Joseph Pierre Stephens on Friday, January 2, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at the First United Pentecostal Church in Opelousas. Pastor Anthony Polotzola will officiate the service. Burial will follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington, LA.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 2, 2026 from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. in the First United Pentecostal Church.

Joseph, affectionately known as Pete, or (J.P.) was born on March 15, 1934, in Washington, Louisiana. He graced this world with his loving and caring personality, leaving an indelible mark on everyone he met. After a fulfilling career as a Mechanic, in later years he became a barber. Pete became a beloved figure in his community. His dedication to his craft was matched only by his devotion to family and friends.

Pete honorably served in the Army, as a mechanic showing his commitment not only to his profession but also to his country. Throughout his life, he cultivated various hobbies, finding joy in hunting, fishing, and crawfishing. Pete's love for the outdoors was only rivaled by his passion for attending church, where he found solace and fellowship.

On December 19, 2025, Pete passed away at Onyx Care Rehabilitation, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness that his family will cherish forever. He is survived by his daughters, Melissa Comeaux and her husband Rodney, and Selena Hardeman. His grandchildren, Kassie Dulaney, Blake Comeaux, Jonathan Christopher, and Deanna Wolf, will always remember his warmth and guidance. Additionally, Pete was a great-grandfather to Evan Dulaney, Josie Comeaux, Karson Dulaney, and Alexander Wolf, all of whom brought him immense joy.

He is preceded in death by his son, Gary Stephens; his father, Pierre Stephens; his mother, Laurance Phillips; and his siblings: brother Clarence Stephens, brother Ray Stephens, and sister Evelyn Lucas, along with his son-in-law, Mark Hardeman, brother-in-law Fred Lucas and sister-in-law Hazel Stephens. Pete also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, along with one great-grandchild, Kameron Dulaney, who will carry his memory forward.

Joseph Pierre Stephens will be remembered not just for his skills as a barber, but for his endless capacity to love those around him. His spirit will continue to resonate in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him.

Pallbearers will be Blake Comeaux, Christopher Wolf, Daren Dulaney, Rodney Comeaux, Evan Dulaney, and Karson Dulaney.
