Opelousas – A Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph Ray Pitre will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Grand Coteau with a Rosary at 1:45pm. The visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow in the St. Charles Cemetery.
Ray, age 84, a resident of Opelousas, entered into eternal rest on July 22, 2023, at Senior Village Nursing Home with his loving family by his side. Mr. Pitre was an avid hunter and fishman. He received numerous Safety Awards and Outstanding Service Awards from Schlumberger Well Services for over 35 years.
Ray is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Maxine Venable Pitre of Opelousas, daughters, Christina Pitre -Castillo and husband Tony of Arnaudville, and Stephanie Pitre Higgins and her husband Steven of Plano, Tx., 1st cousins, Carol Venable and Lorraine Venable and husband Don, Marilyn Pitre Dejean and husband, Kenny, Scott Pitre and his wife, Emily, Jed Reviere, and his wife, Cindy, Kelly Carroll and her husband, Bryant, and Kim Thompson and her husband, Jamie.
Ray is preceded in death by his parents, Benny and Louisa Pitre, brother, James Pitre and his wife Lou, sister, Wilma Pitre Venable, and her husband Merlin, cousin Gordon Pitre.
In Lieu of flowers donations can be made in memory of Mr. Pitre to the United Heart Association.
