Port Barre– A Mass of Christian Burial for Nelson Barron will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 12, 2021, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Port Barre. Fr. Clint Trahan will celebrate the Mass. Rite Committal will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Port Barre.

Nelson, age 71, passed away on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.

Nelson was currently serving his second term as alderman for the town of Port Barre. He was a reserve Port Barre police officer, a member of the Masonic Lodge, and member of the Union 406 in Baton Rouge. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.

Nelson is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Patsy Stelly Barron; his children, Marshall Barron of Port Barre, Tammy Hardy and husband Greg of Port Barre, Dawn Nikki Quebedeaux and fiancé, Chris Breaux of Opelousas and Heather Fontenot and husband Nick of Port Barre; brother, Dale Barron; sisters, Cheryl Leger, Linda Stermer, Jackie Guidroz, Pat Gauthier, Pris Lejeune and Judy Richard all of Port Barre;6 grandchildren, Piper Martin and husband, John, Gregory Hardy and wife, Lauren, Taylor Quebedeaux and wife, Dorie, Lane Quebedeaux and wife, Betti, Parker Fontenot and Liam Fontenot; 7 great-grandchildren, Colton, Caroline, Mason, Ella, Sophia, Kate and Lincoln.

Nelson is preceded in death by his parents, Lennis and Bernice Barron; mother and father-in-law, Levan and Zula Stelly; son-in-law, Jason Quebedeaux; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Doucet.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 12, 2021, from 9:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Port Barre. The rosary will be recited at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral Home.
