Opelousas - A mass of Christian Burial will be held for J. Webster "Webb" Marcantel at 1:30pm on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas, Louisiana. Fr. James Brady will officiate the Mass. Concelebrants include Fr. Michael Champagne and Fr. Randal Moreau. Burial will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery in Opelousas.
Webster Marcantel passed away at his home on September 15, 2024, at the age of 87. Born March 19, 1937 in Pine Point, Louisiana, Webb lived a life marked by his devotion to his family, his career, his strong Catholic faith, his love of sports and his love of travel.
As a successful insurance agent, Webb was known for his unwavering commitment to his clients and his exemplary work ethic. His professional endeavors allowed him to connect with many individuals, earning him respect and admiration within industry and the community at large.
Webb's interests and dedication extended beyond his work. He served as an esteemed member of the Knights of Columbus and The Cursillo Movement. Webb was also enrolled as a Suffering Associate in the Community of Jesus Crucified, offering up his trials and suffering for the conversion of souls and the works of the Community.
Additionally, he was a passionate sports enthusiast and loved traveling. Webb was an active participant in the LSU Foundation Association. He proudly competed in the Senior Olympics, displaying his competitive spirit and love for physical activity. His zest for life was infectious; he enjoyed traveling around the world, traveling to five different continents.
He leaves behind his devoted wife, Loretta Reed Marcantel, and their three children: sons Michael Webster Marcantel (and wife Susan), Jerome Walter Marcantel (and wife Jeanne), and daughter Lori M. Briggs (and husband Peter). Webb also cherished his role as a grandfather to nine grandchildren: Natalie Briggs, Anne Catherine Blanchard, Gabrielle Briggs-Fontenot, Rachel Landry, Rene Briggs, Rebecca Briggs, Max Marcantel, Edith Marcantel, and Juliette Briggs as well as four great-grandchildren.
Webb was preceded in death by his parents, Senior and Armide Marcantel, and his sisters: Gretel Ardoin, Wyline Fontenot, and Lucy Manuel. Their memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
In remembering and praying for Webb Marcantel, we honor his remarkable life filled with love and generosity. He will be dearly missed by family, friends and all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him. May his legacy of kindness and commitment continue to inspire those who carry his memory forward. Visitation will begin on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:30pm that evening in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel. On Thursday morning the wake will begin at 8:00am until time of Mass.
