John Ferrell Lavergne, Sr.

Opelousas- A Funeral Service will be held for John Ferrell Lavergne, Sr. on Friday, May 16, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas. Fr. Stanley Jawa will conduct the service. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 16, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service; the rosary will be recited at 12:30 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. Burial will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas.

John Ferrell Lavergne, Sr., age 98, a lifelong resident of Opelousas, passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his family. He will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved him.

John "Ferrell" proudly served his country in the US Army for four years as a Tech Sgt Inf in World War lI.

He is survived by two daughters, Joanne Lavergne Rose and Dianne Lavergne Holden and husband Mark. One sister, Bernita Fredieu; Seven grandchildren, Tracie Pitre and husband Craig, Michael Darby and wife Mindy, Shanda Darby, Kellie Stanford and husband Brian, Christopher Darby and wife Nikki, Lacie Hainkel and husband Roth, and Jade Rose; sixteen great-grandchildren; and twenty-two great-great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Lucy Bibbs Lavergne; his son John F. Lavergne Jr; His parents Leonard Lavergne and Dana Guillory Lavergne; His sisters, Geraldine Noel, Lessie Rose Phillips and Barbara Dupree.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Michael Darby, Christopher Darby, Mason Darby, Alex Bergeron, Aaron Bergeron and Craig Pitre. Honorary pallbearer will be his godson, Kevin Dupree.
