James "Mike" Michael Dean

November 1, 1962 — November 9, 2024

November 1, 1962 – November 9, 2024

Opelousas--It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mike Dean, aged 62, who left us unexpectedly on November 9, 2024. Mike was a devoted husband, father, son, and friend, whose kindness, laughter, and generosity touched the lives of everyone he met.

He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him. Mike is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Mary Dean; his son, Joshua Dean (31),  daughter, Emily Dean (28). "adopted" daughter, Jordan Mallory Aarsta (31). He is also survived by his mother, Sue Dean (89). Survived by sister, Sandra Dean and brother Matthew Dean.

Mike was preceded in death by his father but is now reunited with him in peace.

Mike Dean was born in Dallas, TX. From an early age he had a competitive spirit and developed a love for any and all sports. He played baseball, basketball, football, and golf. This also ignited in him a lifelong passion for the Dallas Cowboys, which he passed onto his son. Anytime the game was on everyone knew to respect the space, as football Sundays were sacred.

He attended the University of Texas at Austin for both his undergraduate and graduate degrees in the field of social work. He had a servant’s heart and deep compassion and drive to help others. He felt deep empathy for all those around him and touched countless lives in the most meaningful way. He always did so in an unassuming and selfless manner.

Those who had just come to know him would not naturally assume that he was the secret life of the party. However, in typical Dean fashion, he would never want to stay too late at any get together but would always find himself as one of the last to leave. He would inevitably get to know everyone around the neighborhood, often through working out in the yard. People tended to naturally gravitate towards his warm and calm demeanor.

Those who knew Mike will remember him for his unwavering support, his ability to make others smile, and his calm presence in times of difficulty. His humor, wisdom, and love for his family will live on in the hearts of those who had the opportunity and pleasure to love him.

On November 13th, 2024, the public viewing will be at Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas, LA from 11-12. His funeral service will be held at Hope Presbyterian Church at 1pm, where friends and family are invited to celebrate his life and share stories of the impact he made.

 May he rest in peace.
