Opelousas--Funeral services will be held for James Thurman Doucet on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington. Visitation will be held from 10:00 until time of service on Thursday in the funeral home.
James, a devoted family man and esteemed locksmith known for his remarkable career as a "Safe Cracker," passed away on November 9, 2025, at Ochsner St. Martin Hospital. Born on March 8, 1943, in Opelousas, Louisiana, he dedicated his life to his craft, proudly serving the community for over 50 years.
James's loving nature was evident to all who knew him. He cherished his family profoundly, always extending his heart to those around him. His warm and caring spirit will be remembered by his children, Tammy Doucet of Opelousas, Patti Delahoussaye (Paul) of Arnaudville, Jamie Doucet of Opelousas, Shannon Mesa (Santi) of Portland, Oregon, and Seth Doucet of Opelousas. He was also a proud grandfather to Leah Richard (Cody), Hollie Babin (Jared), Abbey Babin (Mason), Cade Gravouilla, Joshua Schubert, Austin Schubert, Mya Doucet, Jayce Doucet, Marshall Doucet, and Pablo Mesa, and a cherished great-grandfather to Brylon Richard, Mathis Richard, Cole Meche, Aubriella Meche, Riley Babin, Marley Babin, Luke Potier, and Myla Potier.
James served honorably in the Marines, which shaped his character and instilled in him a sense of discipline and commitment that remained throughout his life. Outside of his professional endeavors, he embraced many hobbies and interests. James had a passion for ballroom dancing and delighted in sharing his love for music with his children, whether it be classical or classic rock, and everything in between. He was also known for his endearing corny dad jokes and a sweet tooth that made him a favorite among his grandchildren.
James joins his beloved wife, Barbara Doucet, who preceded him in death, alongside his parents, J.C. Doucet and Stella "Tala" St. Amand, his son, Troy Doucet, and his siblings, Kermit Doucet, Kenny Doucet, and Patti Doucet. He is remembered as a steadfast source of love and joy, leaving an enduring legacy that will live on through his family and many fond memories shared. His impact on their lives will not be forgotten, and he will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to J. Michael Morrow Nursing Home and Ochsner St. Martin Hospital for the excellent care and compassion they displayed toward their father in his final days and moments.
Pallbearers will be Mason Babin, Jared Babin, Cody Richard, Santi Mesa, Seth Doucet and Cade Gravouilla.
