Opelousas Funeral services for Mr. Ignace Youel Cummings, age 80, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 5, 2010, with a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas. Interment will follow in Bellevue Memorial Park.
Father Paul Bienvenu will celebrate the Mass.
He was a native of Bristol and was a longtime resident of Opelousas. He died on Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at Opelousas General Health System. In 1995, he retired from the St. Landry Parish School Board as a carpenter after 25 years of service. He also built homes for 20 years.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Sarah Scott Cummings of Opelousas brothers: Marion Cummings of Opelousas and Levy Cummings of Duson and sister, Rita Smith of Opelousas.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Eldridge Cummings and Helen Lavergne Cummings and sisters: Shirley Speyrer and Ergalie Dabney.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Sunday, April 4, 2010, from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. On Monday, visitation will continue in the funeral home from 8:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday evening in the funeral home.
