Opelousas--A Mass of Christian will be held for Hilton Joseph Duplechien on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Bridget Catholic Church. Fr. Stanley Jawa will celebrate the mass. Rite of Committal will follow in the St. Bridget Cemetery in Lawtell

Hilton Joseph Duplechien, a beloved figure in the community, passed away peacefully on November 4 2024, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center. Born on January 31, 1935, in Lawtell, Louisiana, Hilton dedicated his life to his family, career, and community.

A graduate of Lawtell High and later attending SLI (now ULL) in Lafayette, Hilton commenced a successful career in finance, ultimately establishing several locations of Hilton's Finance and Furniture Mart. His professional life was marked by integrity and a strong commitment to service, reflecting his nurturing personality.

Hilton’s love for his family was the cornerstone of his life. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Angie Young Duplechien, and a proud father to five children: David Duplechien (Jackie), Kathy Allard (Roland), Randy Duplechien (Sue), Bert Duplechien (Brian), and Lisa Ann Duplechien. He cherished spending time with his grandchildren, including Colin Nurmi (Josh), Cale Duplechien, Ezra Duplechien, Erin Allard Godin (Jessie),  Ashley  Duplechien (Chris), Grant Duplechien (Mary), Bret Duplechien (Lori), Drew Duplechien  (April) and Billy Allard (Jen) as well as his great-grandchildren, Connor and Ethan Nurmi, Charlie, Mack, and Zoe Godin, Maeve Allard, Brennan Duplechien, Kodi Duplechien, Clara Duplechien and Louis Duplechien. The warmth and love he shared with his family mirrored his loving and caring nature.

In addition to his family life, Hilton enjoyed a range of hobbies and interests. He was known for his green thumb, often tending to his cherished vegetable garden. His passion for sports was evident not only in his enjoyment of playing but also in his commitment to coaching young athletes. Family vacations were also a highlight, as they created lasting memories of joy and togetherness.

Hilton was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, where he demonstrated his commitment to community engagement and service. Furthermore, he honorably served in the National Guard Reserve, reflecting his dedication to his country.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clophed and Marie Alexandrine Thibodeaux Duplechien; his daughter, Lisa Ann Duplechien; his brothers, Polastron, Ovelien, Lloyd, Jean Baptiste Duplechien, Joseph Leroy Duplechien, Jean Duplechien and Leon Duplechien; and his sisters, Armeza Oliver and Edina Smith. Each of these individuals held a special place in Hilton's heart, and their memories continued to live on in his life.

Hilton Joseph Duplechien leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and service that will be ardently remembered by all who knew him. His compassionate spirit and unwavering priorities will forever resonate in the lives of his family and the community.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024 from 2:30 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel of Opelousas. The rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Visitation will resume on Saturday. November 9, 2024 at 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
