LAWTELL- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Hilman John Boudreaux on Friday, November 7, 2025 at 1:30 p.m. in the St. Bridget Catholic Church in Lawtell, LA. Fr. Mark Ledoux will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal will follow in the St. Bridget Cemetery.
Hilman John Boudreaux, born November 2, 1934, in Opelousas, LA, passed away peacefully at home at 3:17AM on October 30, 2025.
Hilman was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He served his country proudly as a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Air Force, as Statistical Services Officer. Hilman received a Bachelor’s degree in Math at Southwestern Louisiana Industrial Institute in Lafayette, La., a Master’s degree at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, La., and an Educational Specialist degree at the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette, La.
He served as a teacher and boys’ basketball coach at Leonville High School and then as a teacher and girls’ basketball coach at Lawtell High School. He later worked with the St. Landry Parish School Board as Supervisor of Education and Supervisor of Bus Transportation. After retiring from the school board, Hilman served as Assistant Principal at Opelousas Catholic School and then as School Guidance Counselor at St. Edmund High School in Eunice, La.
During his lifetime, Hilman enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping with his family and friends. He also enjoyed playing cards, gardening and working on the farm. Hilman was a member of the Lawtell Volunteer Fire Department, the Lawtell Knights of Columbus, the Opelousas Elks Lodge and the Louisiana Teachers’ Organization. He will be greatly missed by family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his sons Roderick and wife Gwen; Charles; Steven and wife Marissa; and Neal and wife Staci; his daughters Sandra Smith; Tamara Hackett and husband Scott; Lisa Ryder and husband Todd; and Bridget Boudreaux and husband Jared; his grandchildren Alana Pitzer and husband Jason; Kyle Boudreaux and wife Maribel; Nicole Voss and husband Jonathan; Steven Boudreaux II; Brendan Boudreaux and wife Mary; Ryan Hackett and wife Cali; Kirsten Meagher and husband Brendan; Sydney Ryder; Jared Cornett, Jr.; John Cornett; Jillian Cornett; and Johnnelle Cornett; his great-grandchildren Elizabeth, Alexander, Ethan, Jordan, Stephanie, Isabel, Lily, Cohen, Ellie, Rhett, Owen and Jaci; his sister Mary Johnson; and his sister-in-law Ruth Boudreaux.
Hilman was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Verna Mae Boudreaux; his parents Theo and Francis Boudreaux; his sister Amy Hidalgo and husband Howard; his sister Pearl Cary and husband Sidney; his sister Ada Ortego and husband Douglas; his brother Otis Boudreaux and wife Emela; his brother Levy Boudreaux; and his son-in-law Dale Smith.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. The rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Deacon Ulysse Joubert. Visitation will resume on Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. in the funeral home.
