Harriet Doucet

October 10, 1937 — January 24, 2019

Opelousas- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for, January 26, 2019 Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas, La., for Our beloved Harriet Hidalgo Doucet, 81 who passed away on January 24, 2019 at 8:15 a.m. after a long illness. Msgr. Russell Harrington will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass. Mr. J.P. Poierier is the choir direct and Mrs. Andrea Pitre will be the organist. The choir will perform "on Eagles Wings". As the Deer Longs", By Name", songs of the Angels". "It is Well". Mrs. Rose Boulet and Ms. Sophie Doucet will be the lector; Dr. and Mrs. Michael Smith will be the gift bearers. Interment will be in the St. Landry Catholic Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be, Mr. Connor Doucet, Mr. Aiden Doucet, Mr. Andre Doucet, Mr. Jean Luc Doucet, Mr. Peter Briggs, III, and Dr. Shawn Briggs. Dr. Lucius Doucet III will give the eulogy.

She was surrounded by her loved ones in the end, being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, Dr. Lucius J. Doucet, II, her children, Dr. Lucius J. Doucet III, Dr. Christopher E. Doucet and his spouse Leslie, and Dr. Andre H. Doucet, and his spouse, Michelle, her sister, Mrs. Susan Hidalgo Smith and her husband, Dr. Michael Smith, a sister-in-law Mrs. Rose Briggs Boulet and her husband, Dr. L.H. Boulet; her grandchildren: Manon, Gisele, Jean-Luc, Sophie, Connor, Aiden, Isabella, Andre, Amelia Margaret, Mary Grace, and Benjamin and one-great-granddaughter.

Harriet was a native and longtime resident of Opelousas. She was a graduate of the Academy of the Immaculate Conception and the Southwest Louisiana Institute at Lafayette, Louisiana.

She was an active member of the St. Landry Parish church, a lector, a member of the Ladies Altar Society, a choir member, a member of the Friends of the Bereaved, and a Church Council Member, and also a member of the President's Council of Loyola University in New Orleans, Louisiana.

She was a member of the Opelousas Garden Club and the Preservation Society of St. Landry Parish.

She was also a member of the Krewe of Corinth and a Duchess of the annual ball.

She was an accomplished interior decorator of both homes and churches and co-owner of Doucet Acadiana Antiques.

Her Hobbies were travel, gardening and sewing.

The family would like a to especially thanks Mrs. Annette Watts for the excellent care given to her during her illness together with Grace Hospice, Staff and particularly Donna Brown and Allie Segura.

The family request that visitation be held on Friday, January 25, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas. The rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening. The funeral home will reopen for visitation on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

In Lieu of flowers donations are to be made to St. Landry Catholic Church.
