Opelousas-- Funeral service will be held for Hammie Charles Foster on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Alvin Ogea of Unity Baptist Mission Church will officiate the service. Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Port Barre.
Visitation will be held at Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas on Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. A Rosary will be prayed at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.
Hammie, a beloved resident of Eunice, passed away on March 5, 2026, at the Calcutta House in Lafayette. He was born on June 15, 1956, in Opelousas, Louisiana, and filled the lives of many with joy and kindness throughout his years.
Hammie was known for his very loving and kind nature, which made him a cherished friend and family member. His passion for life was evident in his love for dancing, which brought him immense joy. He relished spending time with his family, creating lasting memories that will forever be treasured. Hammie had a particular fondness for traditional Cajun cuisines, often making in favorites such as boudin and cracklins..
He is survived by his son, John Joseph Foster of Mamou, Louisiana; his brother, Jude Louis Foster, Sr., and companion Tina Broussard of Erath; and his sister-in-law, Myrina Ann Foster of Opelousas. Hammie's legacy continues through his nieces and nephews, including Schleen Thibodeaux and husband Trent, Jude Louis Foster, Jr. and wife Keri; Dana Lynette Castille and husband Daniel; Matthew James Foster and companion Kim; and David Lyle Foster and companion Jessica. He was also a proud godfather to Dana Castille and leaves behind 11 great nieces and nephews, along with 12 great-great nieces and nephews.
Hammie was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Foster and Roma Jean Robin, who undoubtedly instilled in him the values that made him such a cherished individual in this world.
He will be remembered not just for his joyful spirit and love for food and dance but for the profound impact he had on all who knew him. Hammie Charles Foster will be deeply missed by his family and friends, whose lives were enriched by his warmth and love.
