Gloria Martha Hunt

Opelousas -Funeral service will be held for Gloria Bernard Hunt on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at the Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas. Burial will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery in Opelousas. Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home. 

Gloria passed away Sunday evening, December 15, 2024, at the age of 89. She was born on August 21, 1935, in Opelousas, Louisiana. She was the best mom anyone could have wished for, always ready with loving arms and guidance. She shared her love of music and creativity with her daughter. Gloria enjoyed taking care of her family, studying her Bible, sewing, crocheting, baking for her family and listening to old hymns and gospel music. She also enjoyed babysitting her grand cat, Smokey! 

But her most notable achievement would be her faith in and love for our Lord Jesus Christ and the introduction of the word of God's saving grace to her husband and daughter. Even through her illness and long stay in the nursing home, her faith remained steadfast. Her favorite Bible verse was Isaiah 40:31 "but they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary, and they shall walk and not faint." She is now at peace with her family and friends and in the presence of her Savior! 

She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Hunt Fontenot, son in law Jonathon Fontenot, and a host of nieces and nephews. 

She is preceded in death by her husband, George Earl Hunt, parents Louis Eric Bernard and Lois Stanford Bernard, brothers C.S. Bernard, Charles Bernard and Ralph Bernard, and her sister Jo Bernard Cormier.

Much thanks to the staff at Senior Village Nursing Home for her care over these many years. Also her hospice staff, Melissa Thompson, RN, and Tonnette Smith, CNA, for the care given to her over these last few months.
