Gladys Darbonne Artigue

Port Barre Funeral services for Mrs. Gladys Darbonne Artigue, age 82, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2009, with a Mass of Christian Burial in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery Mausoleum. Fr. Nicky Trahan will celebrate the Mass.

Mrs. Artigue was a native and long time resident of Port Barre. She was currently living at the Senior Village Nursing Home in Opelousas. She passed away at 6:00 a.m. on Monday, March 30, 2009, at the Opelousas General Health System. She was a homemaker and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be sadly missed by all.

Survivors include three sons: Daniel Artigue, Jr. of Kiln, Mississippi; John Wayne Artigue and wife, Phylis of Addis, LA; and Kirt Artigue and wife, Joyce of Tullahoma, Tennessee; three daughters: Delores Devillier of Opelousas; Della Prudhomme of Opelousas; and Betty Moreau and husband, Mike of Carencro; one brother, Mitchell Darbonne of Leonville; two sisters: Mary Warhol of Tomball, TX; and Bevelyn Gautreaux of Opelousas; 10 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 12 step great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Artigue, Sr.; infant son, Leon Artigue; grandchild, Jeffery Fontenot; two sons-in-law, Clayton Fontenot and Warren Prudhomme; parents: Joseph Wildon Darbonne and Doxille Willingham Darbonne; three brothers and three sisters.

Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Port Barre on Tuesday, March 31, 2009, from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. On Wednesday, visitation will continue from 8 a.m. until the time of services.

A Rosary service will be held on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
