Opelousas- --A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Gilda Marie Soileau on Friday, December 19, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Praire Ronde, La. Fr. Mark LeDoux will officiate the Mass. Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Praire Ronde, La.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2025, in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas from 11:00 a.m. till 8:00 p.m. A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m., by Deacon Dwayne Joubert. Visitation will resume on Friday, December 19, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
Gilda Marie Soileau, born on February 1, 1937, in Opelousas, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2025, at Eunice Manor. She lived a vibrant life that was characterized by her enduring passions and the joy she brought to those around her.
Gilda was known for her deep love of Mardi Gras, a celebration that resonated with her exuberant spirit. She could often be found at the casino, embracing the thrill of the games and the excitement of chance. Her unwavering love for music was a central part of her life, enriching her days and connecting her with countless memories and friendships.
Gilda is survived by her sons, Michael Soileau (Connie) of Mandeville, La, and Bryan Soileau (Katie) of Opelousas, La; daughters, Susan Miller (Paul) Of New Orleans, La, Donna Miller (John) of Opelousas, La, and Stacie Miller (Chris) of Carencro, La; brothers, James “Jimmy” Bertrand of Abilene, Texas, and Randell Bertrand of Thibodeaux; sister, Deanna Butler of LaPlace, La; 10 grandchildren, Christopher, Rebecca, Mandy, Sarah, Hunter, Emily, Kadie, Kylie, Aaron, and Lauren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Gilda is preceded in death by her husband, Dudley Soileau; parents, Howard & Marina Bertrand; and daughter, Sharon Soileau.
Pallbearers will be, Mike Soileau, Bryan Soileau, Paul Miller, John Miller, Chris Miller, Christopher Soileau, Hunter Miller, and Aaron Miller.
The community of Opelousas will remember Gilda not only for her lively interests but also for the warmth she shared with everyone she met. Her vivacious personality and zest for life left an indelible mark on her family and friends.
Gilda’s legacy of joy and love will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
