Gerald Dale Chachere

Opelousas- A Mass of Christian Burial for Gerald Dale Chachere will be held at 1:30 PM on July 22, 2023, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA. Reverend Jude W. Thierry, Jr. will be the celebrant of the funeral Mass. Gerald passed away peacefully at his residence surrounded by family on July 16, 2023, at the age of 83. Burial will be at Bellevue Memorial Cemetery immediately following the Mass.

Gerald leaves behind his beloved wife of 62 years, Paula Moreau Chachere; his son Kevin Chachere of Nashville, TN; his daughters Catherine Chachere of New Orleans, LA; Phyllis Chachere Lowe and her husband Dennis Lowe of Mount Vernon, OH; and their three children Olivia Yvonne Lowe, Victor Chachere Lowe and Mary Helen Lowe; his sister Jacqueline Chachere Mayer of Lafayette; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Allen Victor Chachere and Matilda Riley Bihm; his brother Donald Ray Chachere; sisters Lois Chachere Richard and Mary Allen Chachere Labbe.

 Gerald was a loving husband, devoted father, and caring grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved to barbecue, hunt and fish with his son and friends. Gerald grew up working in the sweet potato business with his father for many years, and then worked for Dimmick Supply, and next at National Supply for over a decade. He then started Chachere Trucking from which he retired after 20-plus years.

A visitation will be held at Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas, LA on Friday 21, 2023 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A Rosary will be prayed on Friday at 6:30 PM. The funeral home will re-open for visitation on Saturday, July 22, 2023, from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM followed by the procession to Our Lady of Mercy for the funeral Mass at 1:30 PM.

The family would like to thank Dr. Jamie Collins, Dr. Akshey Gupta, Fresenius Kidney Care Opelousas, St. Landry Homecare Group, and Starla Thomas, his amazing caregiver, for their support and expertise during Gerald’s illness.
