Grand Coteau- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for, George Babineaux, on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. in the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Grand Coteau. Rite of Committal will follow in the St. Charles Cemetery.
George, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at Evangeline Oaks Nursing Home in Carencro, LA. He was an active member in his church and community and loved by many. He was a man of many trades but is most known for his time served with the Sunset Police Department and the Discalced Carmelites of Lafayette. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and helping others in need.
He is survived by his children, Thomas Babineaux, Carlton Babineaux, Marielia Babineaux-Godfrey and Mona Babineaux who was like a daughter to him. His grandchildren are Lovey Johns, Xanthe Johns, Thomas Babineaux Jr., Lisa Babineaux, Joseph Babineaux, Gwendolyn Babineaux, Anthony Babineaux, Sharlor Wilson and Sharrie Williams including 17 great grandchildren. His sisters, Lillie Mae Chevaier and Emma Jean Milton along with niece, Marie Mayfield and nephew, Jeff Lemelle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Ezola Matthew Babineaux; 1st wife, Mary Alex Babineaux and 2nd wife, Mary Francis Babineaux including four brothers, one sister and one great-grandchild, Christian Watkins.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home in Grand Coteau. The rosary will be recited by Deacon Joe Landry at 12:45 p.m.
