Evelyn Pefferkorn

Opelousas- A Mass of Christian Burial for, Evelyn Pefferkorn, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 13, 2018, in Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park. Monsignor Paul Metrejean will celebrate the Mass.

Evelyn, a loving wife and mother, died on Friday, October 5, 2018, with family by her side at age 87. Evelyn will be dearly remembered. May Evelyn rest peacefully with our Lord Jesus Christ.

Evelyn was born on January 31, 1931, to Eva and John Bardwell in Honolulu, Oahu, Territory of Hawaii. She and her family have first-hand experiences of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Evelyn graduated from Roosevelt High School and soon thereafter married Don Pefferkorn, then serving his tour in Hawaii. Evelyn followed Don, during his assignments, residing abroad and on both US coasts, until they settled down in Opelousas to raise the family. Evelyn was well known and loved in Opelousas, having enjoyed a retail career with Abdallas and Bealls. She always had a smile on her face.

Evelyn loved and bragged on her children constantly, embraced her children's spouses and could not get enough of the grandchildren and great grandchildren. One of her great pleasures was preparing special meals and treats for the family. Mom had a strong faith, regularly attended mass and loved listening to Christian singers. In her last years, she enjoyed Christian spirituals, games, and crafts with her close friends.

Evelyn is survived by 4 children, their spouses, 11 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren: David Pefferkorn and wife, Carole; and their children, Megan, Alyssa and Hallie; John Dale Pefferkorn, and wife, Linda; and their children, Rachel, Donnie, and Laura and husband Michael Ary; Dan Pefferkorn and his children Grant, and Lance Pefferkorn and wife Lauren; Ellen Adams and husband, Rusty; and their children, Amanda, Renee and husband Drew Tysinger, and Tiffany and husband Jason Wallace.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Don Pefferkorn, Sr., two children, Lisa Pefferkorn and Donald Pefferkorn, Jr.; her brother, Herb Bardwell and sister, Bea Fior.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 12, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. A Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. on Friday night in the funeral home. On Saturday visitation will continue from 8:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
