Opelousas--Funeral Service will be held for Ethel Marie Broussard Guillory on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas. Pastor Andrew Fridelle will officiate the service. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. A burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington.
Ethel passed away on September 1, 2024, at the Calcutta House in Lafayette. Born on September 29, 1942, in Lafayette, Louisiana, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, known for her kind heart and nurturing spirit.
Ethel was deeply involved in her community and church. She was an active member of the Church of Christ in Lafayette, where she found joy and fellowship. Ethel particularly relished her Tuesday ladies' bible class, forging strong bonds with those around her. Her generous spirit touched the lives of many, and the affection shared within that group truly reflected the love with Ethel.
Ethel was known not only for her nurturing nature but also for her culinary talents. A wonderful cook, she delighted in preparing meals for her family and friends, passionately upholding the tradition of baking birthday cakes for each family member. Her home was a welcoming space where neighborhood children fondly remembered being called over for cornbread and milk, creating our treasured childhood memories that will be cherished forever.
Ethel loved nothing more than spending time with her daughter, grandchildren and her sister, Georgene, and offering her love and support to them.
Ethel's career was marked by her exceptional service at Dekalb Medical Center in Georgia, where she contributed her skills and compassion for ten years. Following her tenure there, she spent an impressive fifteen years at Utah Delta Airlines, excelling in the international reservation department. Ethel's commitment and professionalism left a lasting impact on her colleagues and the many people she assisted throughout her career.
Beyond her professional life, Ethel was known for her rich interests and vibrant hobbies. She possessed a profound love for reading, often finding joy and solace in the pages of books that transported her to different worlds. Her passion for Bible study provided her with both spiritual nourishment and a means of connecting with her faith. Additionally, Ethel had an adventurous spirit and a zest for travel, which led her to explore various destinations and cultures, enriching her life with cherished memories.
She is survived by her children, Resa Chappell and Jimmie “Chuck” Stoute; grandchildren, Lana Latiolais, Cole Griffith and Cailyn Chappell; sister, Georgene Johnson; sister-in-law, Carol Guillory; and niece, Gwen Guillory Willingham.
Ethel is preceded in death by her husband, Jerrald Guillory; parents, Edward “Jack” Broussard and Azema Miller Broussard; brothers, Alcee Kershaw, Adam Kershaw and Ivy Lee Kershaw; sister, Joyce Roy Kershaw; brother-in-law, Cary Joseph Guillory; and niece, Tiffany Rae Guillory. Her legacy of love and devotion to family will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Ethel will be remembered not only for her professional achievements but also for her warmth, intellect, and the light she brought into the lives of those around her. As we reflect on her life, we celebrate the legacy of kindness, dedication, and love she instilled in everyone fortunate enough to have known her. May her kind and nurturing spirit live in our hearts forever.
